Tips for choosing the correct hinge

1. Determine hinge quantity

2 hinges: up to 35 inches door height, 20 pounds
3 hinges: up to 63 inches door height, 20–40 pounds

4 hinges: up to 78 inches door height, 40–60 pounds
5 hinges: up to 94 inches door height, 60–80 pounds

2. Cabinet Styles

Determine if your cabinet is a Face Frame or Frameless

Face Frame: the cabinet face is constructed of vertical "stiles" and horizontal "rails" that reinforce the cabinet structure and provide mounting support for doors and drawers.

Frameless: the cabinet is constructed without any face framing. Doors and drawers are mounted to the sides of the cabinet. Fully concealed hinges are used for the doors.

3. Determine Overlay

Determine if your cabinets are a Full Overlay, Half Overlay, or are an Inset.

Full Overlay
The door overlays or covers the cabinet end panel completely.

Half Overlay
The door partially covers the cabinet end panel.

Inset
The door is inset or flush with the cabinet end panel

4. Measure Overlay Needed

1. Close cabinet door
2. Use Pencil and make a small mark on the cabinet frame directly against the hinged side of the door.

3. Open the cabinet door (or remove the door) and measure from the pencil mark to the opening of the cabinet.

5. In General

Concealed hinges will be either full, half or inset overlay styles
Frameless styles will mount directly to the cabinet side
Face Frame styles have overlays from 7/16" to 1-1/4" and beyond
A 3/8" partial overlay will have a rabbit cut on the back side of the door
Hinges for Face Frame cabinets will mount directly to the Face Frame
